PROOF
The growing awareness around nutrition and health in society challenges the food industry to make a strong commitment to product and process innovation. Also from the current health and care landscape, there is an increasing demand for tailored nutrition for patients. Chronic care patients are highly susceptible to malnutrition and are therefore an important target group within the field of personalized nutrition.

Inhoud
In searching for innovative solutions for personalized food, the partners of PROOF (Platform for Research Oriented towards persOnalised Food) encountered a number of missing links in the innovation landscape. To remedy this, this project built open research facilities at Hogeschool VIVES in Roeselare and Brightlands Maastricht Health Campus of Maastricht UMC+ and University of Maastricht, bringing together expertise from the fields of nutrition and healthcare.
From these open research facilities, the partners partnered with food companies and healthcare actors in two pilot projects, one on muscle weakness in the elderly (sarcopenia) and one on chronic lung disease (COPD). In addition to product development, digital tools were developed to map the impact of adapted nutrition on patients.
