Future thinking

Future thinking as a methodology

What is the first idea that comes to mind when you hear the word future? What will happen in one minute, one day, one week, one year, ten years or five hundred years from now? How can we prepare for the future? Do we have an influence on our future(s)?

The methodology

We use future thinking as a methodology to think about the futures of West Flanders with our stakeholders.

We want to achieve two things with this. On the one hand, we emphasize the importance of Futures literacy. This is the skill that people have to think about the role of future in their lives. During history classes we think about the past, why do we think so little about futures?

On the other hand, we use the tools provided by Strategic foresight to shape the possible futures for West Flanders.

Using different scenarios (from the most positive to we just think of something, a global pandemic…), we can prepare for the societal challenges ahead.

Together with you, we will get to work and work through our projects toward the desired future in the areas of data, social safety, food and health, climate and talent. Do you want to work with us? Then join the TUA community.
